John 6:28 They replied, “What should we do to satisfy God?” 6:29 Jesus told them, “This is the will of God, that you believe in the one he has sent.” (The Living Bible)
A major question that plagues the mind of most believers is about how they will please God. This concern usually stems from a sincere heart that really wants to please their creator and at other times, it is because they are sore afraid of missing the rapture and going to hell [which is an impossible thing for a believer to miss and an impossible place for a believer to go to]. Whatever the reason, we find these unnecessary fears deeply rooted in lack of knowledge of what the word of God says about pleasing God and whenever you are misinformed, you mis-believe, mis-yarn and mis-live.
It’s very important to note however that the criteria for pleasing God in the old testament is quite different from what it takes to please Him in the new testament and Our mind shift on this subject begins when we have it sunk into our hearts that we are NOW in the new testament and not in the old.
The only testaments that will ever exist are the old and the New. There will never ever be any kind of testamental metamorphosis ever again so you can relax in the realities of the new testament knowing fully well that it is where we live and function in and that is where we will continue to live and function in forever!
Under the old covenant, if at all God was pleased it was purely a function of keeping laws, rules and regulations and endless sacrifices of animals. The more you keep the laws of Moses, the more pleasing it seems you are to God while the less you keep the laws of Moses, the less pleasing it seems you are to God. It was a performance based relationship, very undulating, unreliable, impossible to maintain simply because man’s fallen nature could not (even if he wanted to) keep those laws 100% and if you broke one yet kept all the others, you are guilty still of breaking all, what a curse!
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Pleasing God under the old covenant was IMPOSSIBLE, PERFORMANCE BASED and UNRELIABLE!
But praise God we have a better covenant through Jesus Christ and a better covenant it is indeed where we are pleasing to God simply by our faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross!!!
Therefore, pleasing God is exclusively a function of our faith in His Grace as opposed to the old testament way which is by works;
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
In the New testament God is pleased with Christ and because of our faith in what Jesus has done, God is pleased with us too, after all WE ARE IN HIM!
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
So to please God is not a function of actions but of whether you are a carrier of eternal life which can only be received by Faith in Christ.
John 6:39 And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them to eternal life at the Last Day. 40 For it is my Father’s will that everyone who sees his Son and believes on him should have eternal life—that I should raise him at the Last Day.”
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
So you see the eternal life in you is what guarantees that God is pleased with you and that eternal life is a function of faith in Christ
God is so pleased with you as a believer because your faith in Jesus finished work says you are Righteous!
Romans 3:22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin; that wemight be made the righteousness of God in him.
God is so pleased with you as a believer because your faith in Jesus finished work says you are justified
Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
You won’t always feel God is pleased with you but it’s irrelevant what you feel, His word is always exalted above feelings and philosophies;
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight:
Understanding that you are eternally righteous and that God is eternally pleased with you sets you up to live right and not wrongly and at the same time, it helps you overcome guilt and condemnation when you make mistakes. The only way to find out how positively this insight can affect you is to take it in and preach it to others. Stop castigating what you know nothing about.
God is pleased with me and that alone is an empowerment to live for Him, hence I live for Jesus and Him alone! Let this be your resolve, confession and philosophy.
